Actor Gary Dourdan is helping spread the word about People of the Sun and its mission to bring Native leaders, students, innovators, artists, and community members together at the Standing Rock Reservation.
Taking place September 16 through 18, 2026, People of the Sun is a three-day Indigenous-led gathering presented by Indigenized Energy. The event will combine important conversations, cultural experiences, music, recognition, and community connection while honoring the leadership of Tribal Nations.
In a new video message, Dourdan describes the power of bringing people together at Standing Rock to build relationships, exchange ideas, celebrate culture, and imagine a stronger future together.
Creating Space for Community and Connection
People of the Sun marks ten years since the NoDAPL protests took place at Standing Rock. The gathering will recognize the work that has continued across Indian Country during the decade since.
Tribal Nations have advanced renewable energy, food sovereignty, workforce development, economic opportunity, and community resilience, often while facing significant funding and infrastructure barriers.
People of the Sun is an opportunity to recognize that leadership and create new connections among the people helping move the work forward. It is also a place for students and community members to see themselves represented in conversations about energy, culture, innovation, and the future.
