Ten years after standing with the people of Standing Rock during the NoDAPL protests, actress and activist Frances Fisher is inviting others to return with purpose for People of the Sun.
The Indigenous-led gathering will take place September 16 through 18, 2026, at the Standing Rock Reservation. It will honor the work Tribal communities have led over the past decade while creating space to reconnect, celebrate progress, and strengthen the commitment to everything still ahead.
In a new video supporting People of the Sun, Fisher reflects on the privilege of standing with the people of Standing Rock in 2016 and returning to the community in the years since. She shares how the strength, courage, and leadership of Indigenous communities across the country and around the world continue to inspire her.
Ten Years After the NoDAPL Protests
Standing Rock became a global symbol of Indigenous leadership, environmental justice, and the protection of sacred land and water during the NoDAPL movement.
The work that followed did not end when the world’s attention shifted. Tribal communities continued building renewable energy projects, strengthening food sovereignty, creating economic opportunities, and developing solutions rooted in sovereignty and self-determination.
Presented by Indigenized Energy, People of the Sun will recognize that progress and bring Indigenous leaders, artists, innovators, advocates, and allies together to help shape what comes next.
As Fisher shares in her message, the gathering is also a chance to reunite with allies, celebrate the work, refill our cups, and renew our commitment to the work still to be done.
