Actor and environmental advocate Mark Ruffalo is lending his voice to People of the Sun, an Indigenous-led gathering taking place September 16 through 18, 2026, at the Standing Rock Reservation.
In a new video message, Ruffalo invites people to attend, support, and share the gathering while recognizing the generations of Native people who have protected the land and water. He also highlights the leadership Tribal communities continue to demonstrate in renewable energy, food sovereignty, and other community-driven solutions.
Ruffalo has spent time at Standing Rock and describes it as a powerful place that can inspire, ground, and reconnect people with what matters most.
Presented by Indigenized Energy, People of the Sun will bring together Indigenous leaders, artists, advocates, innovators, and allies for three days of conversation, celebration, culture, and connection.
Supporting Indigenous Leadership at Standing Rock
The gathering marks ten years since the NoDAPL protests took place at Standing Rock, but its focus is firmly on what has happened since and what comes next. Across Indian Country, Tribal Nations are advancing renewable energy, creating workforce opportunities, strengthening food sovereignty, and building community resilience.
People of the Sun will honor that work while creating space for relationships, ideas, and partnerships that can help carry it forward.
